Choosing the perfect door accessories and door hardware for your house can be fun, but it is essential to remember that there are several factors in line to be considered before finalizing the door accessory.

Choosing the perfect door accessories and door hardware for your house can be fun, but it is essential to remember that there are several factors in line to be considered before finalizing the door accessory.

The first criterion which you need to look in while selecting the door hardware and locks is the measurement of the depth, or thickness of the door you are looking in for. This factor is particularly very important in case you are looking forward to purchase the door for an old size or for a door which has unusual sizing pattern such as impact entry doors. The standard size for a front door is suppose to be 1 3/4" inches thickness, but these days not all the doors are made on the basis of the standard size as more and more home owners are choosing thicker front entrance doors.

In fact, hurricane impact entry doors come in 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" inches thicker which is approved by Florida impact approved standards. So it is very important that in case you are intending to purchase the front door, then it is important that you take the door thickness measurements approximately.

The next aspect which you need to consider is the type of hardware for your "entrance doors" for which you require for opening and closing the entry door or double entry doors. The appropriate option which you can go in for is the door handles, but most of the people these days are finding the operation of door iron pullers as a better option than the handles. The door pullers with a roll catch system act as a better option for the smaller children and even for people with arthritis.

Typically, the outer doors have a dead latch and a dead bolt or flush bolt therefor, which is keyed on the thumb button. While you are considering the door hardware of the interior door, it is important to note the kind of lock you want for the door, and how much secure should the lock be. It is always advisable by door companies that you do not install the keyed side of the lock on the interior of the room, just for the minor reason that the person could get locked inside the room in case they do not have the key. This would be a problem for a locksmith as well. In case you are installing the system of thumbed button or turn buttons then the person inside can easily get out without much of a strain in times of emergency such as a house fire.

The next aspect which you need to take into account is the appearance of your door hardware decor. Are you looking forward for the hardware which matches the time period of your house, or are you intending for a silver or brass shining on the door so as to reflect the period of the ancient times. Or are you looking forward for the door which suits to the look and feel of your house decorating needs. It is important to note that a shiny modern silver door knob will completely tend to be out of place between the burnished brass carriage lights at traditional settings.

The next criterion which you need to consider is the usage of the sturdy metal materials, most of the hardware these days have a special coating called as the physical vapor deposition (PVD) or painted powder coated colors such as black or oil rubbed bronze (US10B) which protects them from the surrounding environmental conditions. It is important that you select the door hardware material based on the time you are going to devote for maintaining it and keeping it snippy.

The homeowner was orginally from Caracas, Venezulea and wanted to bring contemporary style interior doors to the penthouse with the interior doors, door hardware, flooring and overall aspect of the penthouse with private entrance to the elevators.

These contemporary interior doors were flush designed with 2 different wood tones used and we applied clear varnish to give the different wood shade tones to the design.

Now, that we are in May already and inching closer to June 5th, the start of the 2011 hurricane season, our question is "are you ready for hurricane season 2011"? The predictions from the forecasters at Colorado State University is already predicting a 72% chance that the East Coast of the United States can be hit or affected by a major hurricane this year 2011.

What do you need to do? Start preparing against hurricanes and have all your hurricane supplies ready to go. Don't wait until the last moment to purchase hurricane doors and windows. Most door and windows manufactures such as us, get real busy during the hurricane season and custom doors and windows normally take 6-10 weeks so you want to start looking now and make some door decisions before we get in the mist of major hurricane season which is normally the months of August and September.

It looks like this hurricane season is going to be a whopper based on the early predictions by the forecasters at Colorado State University. You can read more about the early prediction report here.

The other day, there was a very interesting article in the local newspaper "Miami Herald titled "When Company Inspectors Come calling" which basically advised how home insurance companies are now contacting home owners to set up inspections of their homes to see if the homes in Florida meet building code requirements that were submitted to the insurance companies so the homeowners could receive discounts on their insurance premiums.

What does this mean to you as the homeowner?

This would mean that it is possible that your insurance company will contact you very soon in the coming weeks or months to set up a appointment to come inspect your home to see if you have code enforced impact exterior doors, impact garage doors, windows, roofing and more to insure that you get your homeowners discount by purchasing or building your home with all these building materials that are approved by code.

What if I refuse to let the insurance company to come do a inspection?

According to the newspaper article, if homeowners refuse to allow the insurance companies access to your property to do the inspection, then you "RISK" having your insurance policy canceled or they could even jack up your insurance rates even more. So, basically you have no choice but to allow them to come to your property and do the inspections.

What will I need to show them during the inspections?

I would imagine you will need to show the inspectors, all your paperwork with your purchases showing they are impact doors, windows, roofing, etc… Make sure to keep the impact approvals with Miami-Dade County such as NOA's and all building permits you received during the building or remodeling process.

I would imagine there is going to be a public outcry from all of this especially since in the past, lots of homeowners have cut corners by purchasing non-impact cheap doors from a door manufacture who hasn't even tested the doors or windows to meet local building codes in Florida or Miami-Dade County.

So don't wait until the last minute before you get these calls from your home insurance company. Start looking for all your impact doors and windows paperwork or start looking to replace all your exterior doors and windows before you get this inspections. Otherwise, you could pay dearly with outrageous insurance premiums or even worse, have your policy canceled which by looking for a new insurance company, you would lose all your discounts!
