Impact Doors

Deco Design Center offers impact doors that have been certified by Dade County, Florida with N.O.A.'s as being safe for all areas in Florida or elsewhere in the United States or Caribbean in which severe weather such as hurricanes or tropical storms is a real threat and concern. New codes for what makes a door impact-resistant were established by Dade County in South Florida as well as the Florida Approval in other areas of Florida as a reaction to the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The first named storm of the 1992 Atlantic hurricane season, Andrew struck the northwestern Bahamas, southern Florida at Homestead (south of Miami), and southwest Louisiana around Morgan City in August. Andrew caused $26.5 billion in damage ($38.1 billion in 2006 US dollars), with most of that damage cost in south Florida, although other sources put damage between $27 billion to $34 billion in total costs. Its central pressure ranks as fourth-lowest in U.S. landfall records and Andrew was the costliest Atlantic hurricane in U.S. history until surpassed by Hurricane Katrina of the 2005 season. All of the doors in Deco Design Centers impact-resistant collection have been subjected to quality control testing and certification procedures for wind and water.

The tests that are conducted on impact doors determine whether or not the doors are susceptible to air, pressure and water leakage. In a hurricane or tropical storm the doors and windows on a house are a vitally important line of defense against damage to the people and important possessions inside. If the doors or windows with or without impact glass cannot withstand strong winds and rain, they can't be certified as impact-resistant by code or approved testing facilities.

Of course, a mahogany impact door or authentically hand forged aluminum door that can hold up against a hurricane is also going to offer extra protection against forced entry. Knowing that your loved ones are safe behind a thicker solid wood mahogany door or heavy duty gauge aluminum door can really strengthen your peace of mind. No matter how strong and tough their doors, Deco Design Center never sacrifices anything in the way of aesthetic appeal.
